ABOUT THE COFFEE

Boa Vista refers to a small high-elevation micro-region just outside of the town of Ibiraci. What started over a century ago as a single large coffee plantation called Boa Vista (or literally “Good View” in Portuguese) today now consists of a series of contiguous small-holder coffee farms, each managed by their respective families.  Many of these coffee farming families have been growing coffee for over 4 generations.  For them, coffee farming is more than just a means to support their families, it is both a deeply rooted culture and a way of life.

THE TERROIR OF CERRADO MINEIRO

The Cerrado Mineiro Region is a world recognized high quality coffee producing origin - the first “Designation of Origin” in Brazil, located in northwest of Minas Gerais State. Designation of Origin is one of the many steps towards increased traceability in Cerrado Mineiro. In order to receive Cerrado Mineiro Designation of Origin, coffee must be specialty (80+ points). There are also other requirements, such as committing to follow Brazilian law, and the cooperative and warehouse must also have signed up to this agreement. Designation of Origin status isn’t just about traceability: it’s also about the quality and diversity of flavours. A Designation of Origin is a demarcated territory that produces a product that has unique characteristics that cannot be found anywhere else. The region‘s motto is "coffee produced with attitude: ethical, traceable and of high quality".

Steady climate, dry-fresh winters, warm-wet summers. Dry winds in pleasantly hot days and refreshingly cool nights. It is the perfect condition for amazing beans to be grown. Wind, sun and soil are exceptional for Arabica trees. The diverse altitudes and microclimates create conditions that will later surprise the palate with a large range of flavors from velvet-chocolaty to bright-flowery profiles. The coffee plantations are cultivated in areas with altitudes varying between 800 and 1,300 meters.
