ABOUT THE COFFEE PRODUCTION:

COFFEE REGION:

Nicaragua: Home of Exceptional Specialty Coffee

Nestled in the heart of Central America, Nicaragua is renowned for its high-quality Arabica coffee, grown in volcanic soil at high altitudes. The country's diverse geography and climate—featuring mountainous regions and abundant rainfall from May to November—provide ideal conditions for cultivating specialty highland coffee, celebrated for its balanced flavor and complex aroma.

Covering 130,370 km² and home to 6.55 million people, Nicaragua is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, hosting about 10% of global biodiversity. Its rich ecosystems—ranging from volcanoes and crater lakes to rainforests and tropical lagoons—directly influence the flavor profile of its coffee.

With 140,000 hectares dedicated to coffee farming, the industry supports the livelihoods of around 500,000 Nicaraguans. Approximately 90% of the coffee produced is Arabica, while Robusta cultivation is permitted only in select regions along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Coffee is a cornerstone of Nicaragua’s economy and has earned a place in the global market as a product of superior quality.

Nicaraguan coffee stands out for its smooth body, balanced flavor, and notes of fruit or chocolate. Experience the true essence of Nicaraguan coffee—a cup filled with history, tradition, and unmatched quality.

Nueva Segovia: A Gem in Nicaragua’s Coffee Landscape

Nestled in northern Nicaragua, Nueva Segovia is one of the country’s most distinguished coffee-growing regions. Spanning 12 coffee-producing districts, this region is home to around 267,000 people and covers 3,491 km² of mountainous terrain ideal for cultivating specialty coffee.

More than 5,289 dedicated farming families grow approximately 21,817 hectares of high-altitude Arabica coffee, featuring exceptional varietals such as Caturra, Maracaturra, Red Catuaí, Yellow Catuaí, and Catimor. These beans are known for their vibrant acidity, refined sweetness, and nuanced flavor profiles.

Contributing 14% of Nicaragua’s total coffee production, Nueva Segovia is a vital part of the country’s specialty coffee identity—producing beans that consistently impress on the global stage.

Finca Agua Sarca: Passion and Precision in Every Bean

Located in Dipilto, Nueva Segovia, Finca Agua Sarca spans 69 hectares fully dedicated to coffee cultivation. With around 300,000 coffee trees and seven distinct Arabica varietals, the farm consistently produces exceptional results—thanks to meticulous care and a deep-rooted passion for quality.

At the heart of Finca Agua Sarca is Isacio Albir, whose journey in coffee began at a young age, picking cherries during school vacations. One of his earliest and most vivid memories is of encountering the Maragogipe varietal—a moment that sparked a lifelong love for coffee.

As he grew, Isacio pursued a degree in agronomy, equipping him with the technical expertise to deepen his involvement in specialty coffee. After university, his father began specializing in coffee cultivation, opening the door for Isacio to immerse himself in the finer details of farm management and post-harvest processes.

Today, with over 30 years of experience, Isacio has extensive expertise in coffee cultivation and is an active member of a local cooperative. Through this network, he continues to share his knowledge and passion, contributing to the growth of specialty coffee in the region.
